NEARBY SARZANA CARRARA QUARRIES THE CINQUE TERRE VERSILIA WE SUGGEST

	Within the Carrara district alone there are about 100 open­cast quarries scattered around the mountains which rise to form a semi-circle behind the town. This is the north-western range of the Apuan Alps. Extraction is carried out over a total area of 2000 ha. cut by three deep valleys run­ning parallel to one another in a north-easterly to south­westerly direction, corre­sponding to the three princi­pal excavations basins of Carrara. Goingfrom west to east we find: The Torano Basin
(in which we may also include the small basin of Pescina-­Boccaglia), the Miseglia Ba­sin and finally the Colonnata Basin; all these names come from the names ojf three small mountain villages located within them.
